Our little shop sends about eighty parcels a week in the run-up to Christmas, and this has done two of those seasons now without a murmur. The labels have to live in a drawer rather than on the windowsill, because direct thermal fades in sunlight, but that is the technology rather than the printer. Calibration after a roll change is one button and about four seconds of feeding.

This runs the despatch for a one-woman jewellery business, which means thirty or forty labels on a Sunday evening and nothing at all midweek. Four months in, it is plainly the right machine for that. No ribbon to dry out, no ink, no warm-up: press print and the labels come out faster than I can stick them on. Third-party rolls have been fine, which was the thing I worried about most after reading the horror stories, though you do have to run the calibration once when you change brand. The only real gripe is the software. Zebra's own is written for warehouses rather than for somebody making one label at a time, so I print from the courier's website instead and everything works.

Set up on a Mac, which the box does not promise, and it worked with the generic driver in about ten minutes. It has printed every label the courier's site has thrown at it since, and the only thing I have had to learn is which way up the roll goes so they come out the right way round!
