Used for: Less than a month
Fitted a ceiling projector in a games room this month and needed the run to go through an existing 25mm duct that was already carrying a network lead. The detachable end made that a five minute job rather than a demolition project. Handshake with an Apple TV and a console switch box was instant, no black frames, no resolution guessing. Twenty-five metres and it behaves like a two metre lead!
Used for: 6–12 months
Set and forget
Bare cable looks industrial where it is visible
Feeds a large screen in a school reception from the office next door and has been ignored by everyone ever since, which is the point
Used for: 6–12 months
Our village cricket club wanted a screen in the bar showing the pitch camera, and the only route was up and over the roof void. This was the cheapest thing I could find that would do 25 metres in one piece and not need a plug socket in the middle. It has run every Saturday since April without anyone touching it. The picture is 1080 rather than 4K, which is all the camera gives anyway, so I cannot tell you how it would fare pushed harder.
Used for: 6–12 months
Quietly reliable
Nothing worth listing
Half a year of daily use in a meeting room and nobody has complained
Used for: 6–12 months
Does 25 metres for the price of a fancy short one
Only 4K at 30 over this length
Cheap, long, and it has not let go!
Used for: 3–6 months
The plug shell comes off so it pulls through a small hole
The reason this one is called an engineering cable is the head: it unscrews down to a slim tip so you can pull it through conduit and screw the full plug back on at the far end. That saved cutting a bigger hole in a stud wall that had already been skimmed and painted. Four months on and the picture is still clean.
Used for: 1–3 months
Full length with no amplifier in the middle
The screw collar never quite seats flush
Does the distance without a booster, which is what I wanted. Four stars only because the screw-on collar needs a firm hand and mine still sits slightly proud against the wall plate.
Used for: More than a year
Takes whatever source gets plugged into it
Stiff behind the slim tip, so tight bends are a struggle
Been in the ceiling of a rehearsal room since last spring, carrying whatever the band plug in that week: laptops, a camera, once a games console. Two years of that and it has never argued with any of them. Where I would knock a star is the pull. The bare tip is slim but the cable behind it is not, and getting the last few metres round a 90 degree bend in the duct took two of us and some soap. Worth knowing before you plan the route.

Slim head, easy pull, and the picture came up first go. Superb!
