The keyboard half is what you are paying for and it earns it. Full-size layout with proper travel, an iPad row along the top for volume and home, and no wobble when it is on your knees. Over a year in the only wear is a faint mark where the tablet corners sit. It is thicker than a magnetic cover but it is a keyboard, so that seems fair enough to me.

This replaces a keyboard balanced on top of a propped-up tablet, which lasted a fortnight before I gave up on it. The difference is that this is one object. You open it and it is a small laptop; you shut it and it is a protected tablet. Nothing to line up, nothing to fall over. The tray holds the iPad firmly and the buttons are covered rather than cut out, which I prefer, because the volume rocker still clicks properly through the case. Typing is the surprise. There is more key travel than my work laptop has, the layout is full size, and the row of iPad keys along the top does the things you actually want, brightness and lock especially. The one thing to know before ordering: closed, it is roughly twice the thickness of the bare tablet. Worth it, but do check your bag!

My mother-in-law wanted something she could type emails on without learning a computer, and this was the answer. It pairs itself the first time and then never asks again. She opens the cover, the keyboard is there, she types. No charging, no settings, no Bluetooth menu to get lost in. The tray protects the corners, which given how the tablet gets carried about the house was the other half of the reason. The only thing I would fix is the weight of the front cover, which flops if you hold it up one-handed.

Two years of use and it is still the case I recommend when anyone asks, with one caveat that has grown on me. The good first. The battery is a coin cell that has not needed changing yet, so there is no charging cable and no flat keyboard on a train. Bluetooth reconnects before the screen is fully awake. The keys have a surprising amount of travel for something this thin, and the grey has not gone shiny. The caveat is the angle. There is one typing position and that is it, so on a low table you are looking down at the screen and on a high desk you are looking up. Every rival with a kickstand solves this and this one does not. Four stars because everything else about it has been faultless.

Picked this over the fancier one because there is nothing to charge. The cell inside is rated for a couple of years of typing and the keyboard has never once been dead when I opened it. The cover shuts with a magnet, the tablet sits in a tray that grips all four corners, and the front folds into the one angle it has. Simple and it works!
