Wired a little comms cabinet in the understairs cupboard: patch panel at the top, eight-port switch under it, and this as the long run out to the garden office. Black for the runs, blue for the patch leads, so anyone opening that door can see at a glance what goes where. The reason I would buy it again is how it behaves in a bundle. Cable-tied to four others it has not deformed, the shielding foil has not split at any of the bends, and the ends went into the keystones cleanly. The garden office gets the same 500 down as the front room now, where before it was on a powerline adapter limping along at 60 on a good day!

Sits behind a rack in the garage feeding a 2.5 gig NAS. Never a link light out of place. Docking a star because 20 metres of this weighs a surprising amount and it drags on the ports if you do not clip it.

Ran this from the ONT in the hall, round two door frames and up to the desk in the back bedroom. Twenty metres sounds like plenty until you go the long way round rather than straight across, and I had about a metre and a half spare in the end. Full 900 down on the wired test where wifi in that room managed 240 on a good day. The braid on this is proper thick, mind, so plan your corners.

Three stars and the cable is not really at fault for two of them. 20 metres measured across the room is not 20 metres once you have gone up over a door, along the picture rail and back down, and I finished about a metre and a half short of the socket. That is on me for not running a piece of string first, which is what everyone tells you to do and nobody does. The mark against the cable itself is the boot. It is a big moulded thing and the port on my telly is in a recess, so it will not seat fully with the panel back against the wall. Fine on a switch, awkward on a modern TV.

Bought it because I was replacing a run anyway and the price gap over Cat 6a was a couple of quid. Honest verdict after a week of it: the cable is excellent and the category is irrelevant to me. My line tops out at 900 and a decent Cat 6 would carry that all day, so nobody should buy Cat 8 expecting the internet to get faster. What you do get is a very solidly made lead. Proper shielding, moulded boots that have not gone anywhere near loose, and a latch that clicks rather than flops. It is heavy though, and it holds the shape of the coil it was packed in for the first few days, so I hung it down the stairwell overnight before running it. Behind the sofa it has stayed where it was put, which the old flat one never did.

The reason it is still here is the plugs. I have snapped the latch off two cheap leads pulling them out of a switch in a tight rack, and these have moulded shrouds over the clip that make that basically impossible. A year and a half in a warm cabinet and the jacket has not gone brittle or sticky.

Threaded it behind the skirting in the front room with the little clips and you genuinely cannot see it against dark oak. Black was the right call. It goes from the router to an eight-port switch under the telly that feeds the PS5, the Sky box and a Blu-ray player, and every one of them holds a link at gigabit. Two months of evenings on it now and not one dropout mid-game.

Feeds a wall-mounted switch in the airing cupboard and the whole upstairs hangs off it. No stiffness problems because it runs straight up a corner and stays there. Speedtest at the far end matches the one beside the router exactly!
