Used for: More than a year

    Pros

No sign of wear at all where it crosses the hall

    Comment

Under a carpet along the hall for two years and it has neither flattened nor failed

Used for: Less than a month

    Pros

Metal-shelled connectors that click properly home

    Cons

Strong coil memory out of the packaging

    Comment

The click when these seat is a satisfying thing, and after years of leads whose clips give up the moment you look at them, the metal shells here feel like a different class of product altogether. Only note is that it comes out of the bag in a tight coil and wants a day or two flat on the floor before it stops trying to go back. Not a fault, just do not attempt to install it straight out of the wrapper!

    Comment

Ran this from the loft down inside a wall cavity to a socket behind the television, and the thing that mattered most was not the category at all, it was the moulded boot. A bare clip catches on everything inside a cavity, and this has a proper collar over it that let the whole 20 metres come through on a draw wire without snagging once. Speed is speed, and on a gigabit switch nothing here is going to shine. But it terminated into a keystone at the loft end without a fight, the pairs are neatly laid up under the foil, and it has been solid for eight months since. If you are pulling cable through a wall, the boot design matters more than the number on the box.

Used for: More than a year

    Cons

Too stiff and too round to hide under a rug

    Comment

Fine cable, wrong shape for my particular job. I wanted it under a rug across a doorway, and it is round and thick enough that there is a visible ridge where a flat one would have given me nothing. Entirely my own mistake rather than a fault

    Comment

Let us be honest about what the category on the box means in a house. The line coming in here is nowhere near a gigabit, the switch is a gigabit switch, and nothing on my desk could tell the difference between this and a decent Cat6 lead. Nobody buying one of these is getting faster internet out of it. What you are actually buying is a very well made 20 metre cable. Two layers of shielding, a jacket that belongs on something industrial, connectors with metal shells, and boots that have not snagged once while I was feeding it under three doors. So, four stars as an extremely good cable and a shrug at the number on the label. If the price is close to a good Cat6a, buy it for the build. If it is a great deal more, do not pretend it is buying you speed.

Used for: Less than a month

    Pros

The build is a clear step above the usual patch lead

    Cons

It will not bend tightly behind a wall unit

    Comment

Run from the router in the hall up to the desk in the front bedroom, and the first thing anybody notices is the weight of it. Heavy connectors, a jacket that feels braided under the fingers, and a thickness that means it does not flop about. Whether the category on the label means anything at all at these lengths is another question, but as a piece of cable it is a lovely thing!

  • APArthur P.24 June 2026

Used for: Less than a month

    Pros

Feels like a cable that will outlive the house it is in

    Comment

First impressions after a weekend of cabling. This is the most substantial patch lead I have ever handled, closer to something out of a plant room than the flimsy thing that comes in the box with a router. The run is from a switch in the understairs cupboard, round the hall skirting and up into the front bedroom. 20 metres left me a metre or so spare, which is about right for that. The only mark against it, and the reason for four rather than five, is that the stiffness makes the last half metre behind furniture genuinely awkward. You cannot dress it into a neat loop the way you would a thin lead, so there is a lazy curve behind the wardrobe that I am not proud of.

Used for: More than a year

    Pros

Two years behind a rack and it still looks brand new

    Comment

Used as the run between a rack in the garage and the office at the other end of the house, through a duct that was already carrying mains, and it has been perfect. The shielding is why I bought it and it earns its keep in that duct. No errors on the port counter, no odd slowdowns when the workshop tools are running, none of the flakiness the old unshielded lead had on exactly the same route. The things nobody mentions are physical. It is heavy enough that a long vertical drop wants supporting rather than hanging off the connector. The boots are large, so a 20mm conduit is a tight squeeze. And it holds a curve, which is a nuisance during the install and rather handy afterwards, because it stays where you put it behind the rack!

    Used for: 3–6 months

    Pros

Nothing interferes with it, even running alongside mains

    Cons

Barely bends, so plan the route before you order

    Comment

Bought this to run alongside a length of mains in a duct where an unshielded lead had been giving me odd errors, and the double shielding has done exactly the job. Not a single error in five months. What I underestimated was the stiffness. This is a cable with a mind of its own, and behind a desk it wants a good hand-width of clearance to make a turn. If your route has right angles in it, buy a length that allows for lazy loops instead, because you will not be making tight corners with this.

    Used for: 3–6 months

    Pros

Absurdly overbuilt, and I rather like that

    Cons

    Thick as a pencil

    Comment

Overkill for a 1 gig line, obviously, but a lovely thing!
