Far too big to hide on a shelf
Faultless coverage, though the units are far too big to hide
Used for: 6–12 months
The fourth band is the reason this works where the older mesh did not. On the old kit the satellite upstairs gave you about half the speed the router did; here the backhaul has a lane to itself and a laptop in the loft measures within a whisker of one sat next to the base. It is not subtle, mind. Each unit is about the size of a small vase and there is no hiding them behind a plant, so we have simply given up and put them where they need to be. Nine months of that and the only interruption has been the odd firmware update, which it does overnight and tells you about in the morning.

Have not thought about wi-fi since it went in
Expensive by any measure
Expensive, worth it, and I have not thought about wi-fi since!
Used for: 1–3 months
Handover between units is invisible
The price is hard to justify to anyone else
The mesh handover is the thing that impresses: a video call survives the walk from the kitchen to the office without a wobble. Six weeks in and it has not dropped one yet
Used for: Less than a month
Straight swap for the ISP router and the difference at the back of the house is not subtle. Whole family on at once in the evening and nothing stutters

Three extenders now live in a box in the loft
Dear, and you feel it every time you look at them
Bought the three-pack for a house that had three separate extenders in it, all of which have gone in a box in the loft. A year and a half on, the wi-fi has never once been the thing anyone complains about, which for a house with two teenagers in it is quite a statement!

Full signal in a workshop at the end of the garden
Plan your sockets first, each unit wants a plug and a shelf
We have a long garden with a workshop at the end and the plan was always to put a satellite out there. It works, and it works better than I expected: full bars in a brick building forty metres from the house, over the wireless backhaul, no cable run and no trenching. What I would tell anyone buying is to think about where the power sockets are before you order. The units are not small and they need a shelf and a plug, and the best position for signal is rarely near either. We ended up moving a socket for the middle one. Once they are placed the app is genuinely simple, the guest network took a minute, and it has not asked me for money since.

The loft has signal at last
Each unit is the size of a small vase
Set up in fifteen minutes from the app and the loft finally has signal!
