Plays everything I own at a locked 144 without ever dipping, and after five months the only thing I have touched is the fan curve. The cooler that came fitted is a good one but its own fans are noticeably shriller than the case set, so at full tilt you can pick them out. Swapping the profile so they ramp later fixed most of that. The interior is as neat as the photographs suggest, which is not always true.

The upgrade path was what tipped it for me over a machine with better headline numbers. There is a spare M.2 slot under the shroud, two SATA trays behind the tray, and the power supply has enough left over to take whatever card comes next without a second thought. What there is not is fan headers. Adding a pair of top exhausts meant a splitter, which is hardly a hardship but it is the sort of thing you find out with the panel already off.

Came from a laptop that had to be propped on a book to stop it cooking, so my expectations were mostly about not hearing a fan every time I opened a browser. What I did not expect was how much of the pleasure would come from the thing itself rather than what it does. It is beautifully made. The panels come off without tools, the interior is laid out so you can see every component instead of a wall of cable, and the finish on the front is closer to furniture than computer. It sits on the desk rather than under it for exactly that reason. The games, obviously, are a different world. But the bit I keep showing people is the inside!

Four stars, and the missing one is purely the state of the desktop on first boot. Two antivirus trials, a hardware monitor that opened on top of everything, a browser I had not asked for, and a games launcher tied to none of my accounts. It took the best part of an evening to strip it back to something I recognised as Windows. The machine underneath all that is superb. Nothing has stuttered, nothing has run hot, and the 2TB drive still has plenty of room on it for a library of my size.

Five stars for what it is, with one note for anyone weighing it against the sibling model. The memory is the one place the specification dips below the rest of it. For gaming alone 32GB is neither here nor there, and mine has never come close to filling it. Open a couple of virtual machines alongside a game and you will notice, and on a board with all four slots populated there is no cheap way to add more later. Everything else is exemplary. Silent, ice cold, beautifully assembled, and the front intake filter slides out with one finger for cleaning.

Bought it expecting to be looking at upgrades by now and instead I have not so much as opened the side. Two years on, everything still runs at the settings I set on the first night. Ridiculous value for a machine that gets used every evening!
