Set a 900mV curve and the board power dropped from about 580W to 470W with almost no measurable loss, which also took twelve degrees off the hotspot. Fans then sit near 900rpm and I cannot hear it. Six weeks in and the curve has not needed touching since. The one irritation is the cabling, which needs a proper 12V-2x6 native lead unless you enjoy a bundle of adapters!

This is the first component I have bought where the card dictated everything else in the machine. It needed a new PSU, because an 850W unit will not do it and the transient spikes on this thing are real. It needed a wider case for the four-slot cooler. It needed a support bracket, and the one in the box is welcome because the card is genuinely heavy. None of that is a surprise if you read up first, but the total was a good deal more than the sticker. A month is not up yet and the arithmetic still stings a little. What you get for it is remarkable. 32GB means local models and 4K textures stop being a conversation. The core holds around 66C with a hotspot delta near ten, and the fans are quieter than the 4090 they replaced despite moving more heat. Four stars only because the cost extends well past the card itself.

This went into a workstation for machine learning rather than games, and the memory is the whole point. Models that had to be split or quantised now load whole, and the 512-bit bus means feeding them is not the bottleneck either. It runs an eight hour job without thermal throttling or any change in clocks.

Bought it for 4K at 240Hz and it has never once been the limiting part. The fourth fan blowing through the rear of the card makes a real difference to what the CPU cooler is breathing, and the core has not passed 68C in anything. Absurd money, no regrets!

The fourth fan venting through the backplate was the reason I picked the Astral over the cheaper 5090s, and it is not marketing. My CPU package temperature dropped four degrees compared to the card it replaced, because the GPU is no longer dumping everything into the same pocket of air. The card itself runs at 65C under a full load.

Hard to fault the hardware and hard to feel good about the purchase. It is stunningly fast, it is well built, and it runs cold. It is also more than I paid for my first car, and the driver stack has crashed on me twice already, both times in the same application. Three stars is about the value rather than the engineering. If you have a use that genuinely needs 32GB then it makes sense, and otherwise a 5080 gets you most of the way for a third of the money.
