Everything at 4K, high settings, and the card sits at 66C with the fans around 1200rpm. You do need the space for it though, and a support bracket, because it hangs noticeably off the slot. Five months of that and the bracket has earned its keep.

First impressions are that it is far quieter than something this fast has any right to be. The fans do not come on for desktop work at all, and in a two hour session they never went above about 1300rpm while the core held 65C. 4K at 120Hz is comfortable in everything I own. Ten days in and that first impression has not worn off at all. Check your PSU has three spare eight-pins before ordering, mine did not!

Performance is not in question, it eats 4K. What cost it a star is the power connector. The adapter fans out into three PSU cables and the bend radius means the side panel only just closed on a 220mm-wide case. A native cable sorted it, but that was an extra purchase I had not budgeted for.

The stock power limit is more than this chip needs. Dropping the curve to 900mV loses maybe two per cent of the frame rate and takes the board power from around 340W down to 280W, which the cooler then barely notices. Card runs at 61C with the fans under a thousand. Losing a star for the sheer size of it, since it blocks two other slots and made a mess of my case airflow until I moved the intake fans. Six months on, the undervolt has stayed put through every driver update.

The jump from a 3080 was the point of buying it and it has delivered more than I expected. 4K is now the resolution I actually play at rather than the one I benchmark at. Path tracing with DLSS on performance holds around 90fps, and the same settings on the old card were a slideshow. The 16GB has been enough for everything so far, though I suspect that is the number people will argue about in three years rather than the raw speed. The cooler is the part nobody mentions. It is a three-slot brick and it is heavy, but the fans stay off entirely below 50C and under full load it settles at 67C with the hotspot about eleven degrees higher. Better delta than any card I have owned. It needs the supplied adapter and three cables from the PSU, which is worth planning for before the box arrives.

Clocks do not drop off after twenty minutes the way my old card did, which is the real benefit of a cooler this size. Hotspot delta stays around ten degrees. The plain black look is either the appeal or the problem depending on your taste. Six months of use and the clocks have not budged.

Bought for Blender and rendering rather than games, and the difference to the old workstation card is not subtle. Scenes that took eleven minutes now take under three, and the 16GB has held every project I have thrown at it so far. It stays quiet enough that I can sit next to it on a call while a render runs, which was never true before! Well past a year of renders now and it has not slowed at all.

Everything you would expect on performance, and the thermals are genuinely excellent, which makes this a frustrating one to write. The whine is the problem. Anything running unlocked, menus especially, produces a clear buzzing that I can hear from a desk away with the panels on. Capping frames at 120 reduces it but does not remove it. On a card at this price I did not expect to be managing a noise the cooler is not making. Three stars, and it would be five if it were quiet.
