Velour pads and a headband that spreads the weight mean these are the first pair I have worn through a whole working day without a break. My glasses do not register at all. They came with two cables, a 6.3mm and a balanced one, and that is the right decision for anyone with a desktop amp. The pads have not compressed yet, though velour does collect dust and mine already need a brush. Detail retrieval on acoustic material is the reason to spend this much!

Open-back means the room hears what you hear, which ruled them out of the office and made them the obvious thing for the spare room. The sub-bass is the change over the older 660S and it is not subtle. They want a proper amp, 300 ohms is not a phone load, and anyone plugging these into a laptop socket will wonder what the fuss is about!

These replaced a closed pair I had been using for mixing at home, and the difference is not subtlety of detail so much as knowing where things sit. Reverb tails go somewhere rather than smearing across the middle. The practical warning is power. Straight out of a laptop they are quiet and lifeless. Through a small desktop DAC and amp they open up entirely, so budget for that or do not bother, because the headphones will get blamed for something that is not their fault. Four months in and my only real gripe is the cable, which is thick, springy and long enough to catch on the chair arm every time I stand up. Everything else is exactly what I hoped for at this money, and I have stopped browsing for an upgrade, which is the real test.
