The screen is the part that justifies it. Text at arm's length looks printed rather than rendered, and after a full day of invoices my eyes are not doing that gritty thing they used to do by four o'clock. Speakers are far better than a machine this thin has any business having, though you would still want proper ones for music.

Bought as a replacement for a nine-year-old tower that had got to the point where opening the accounts spreadsheet meant going to make tea. This wakes from sleep before I have finished sitting down, and the fan has never once been audible in a room where I can hear the fridge two doors away. What I did not think about until it was on the desk is that the memory is soldered in. Twenty-four gigs is generous now and will still be fine in three years, but the whole point of the old tower was that I kept feeding it. Here what you buy is what you keep, and the only upgrade path is an external drive hanging off the back. Worth knowing before you choose the smaller option to save a bit.

The footprint is the thing nobody warns you about in a good way. There is no tower under the desk, no box on the desk, just a stand and a screen, and I got back an entire drawer unit's worth of floor. Cleaning under it takes ten seconds! Where it falls down is the ports. Everything you own that is not new needs an adapter, and once you have a hub plugged in the tidy back panel is a lie again. Mine has a monitor lead, a printer and a card reader hanging off one little dock, which rather spoils the effect. Ten months in and I have made peace with it, but I still resent the cost of the dongles.
