Four months in and the 128GB has proved the right call, because the machine never has to think about how many things are open, and the difference that makes across a working day is bigger than any benchmark suggests. The only note is that the chassis is designed for a service engineer rather than an owner, so anything more involved than adding a drive means reading the manual first.

Came bare, which suited me: I keep my own licence and would rather not have anybody else's software on a new machine. An install from a memory stick took twenty minutes and everything was recognised without hunting for drivers. A year and a half on, it has run every day without a single fault. 128GB means a dozen tabs, two spreadsheets and a virtual machine can all be open at once and nothing has to be closed!

It went into a small office where four people share it through the day, and it has taken that without a murmur. No operating system meant the usual image went on and it joined the domain in an afternoon. It is quiet enough to sit on the desk beside a phone, it has never needed a restart that was not an update, and though it looks like a plain office box there is room inside for another two drives when the archive grows!

Three stars and it is nothing to do with the speed. The chassis takes proprietary parts, the power supply is a shape nobody else makes, and the front ports are on the top edge where a coffee cup lives. Fine machine, awkward to live with
