Bought for our school art department and it has printed far more than anyone expected of it. Displays, project covers, photographs for the corridor. Over a year of that and the running cost has stayed low enough that nobody has had to go and ask for more budget, which is the highest compliment a school can pay a machine!

The lack of a scanner is a feature as far as I am concerned. It is a photo printer and nothing else, so it is compact, it is quiet, and there is no lid to leave hanging open in a small room. Prints on glossy come off it dry to the touch almost immediately, which the machine before it never managed without smudging somewhere.

Runs a photographic side business out of a spare room, so it gets used hard in bursts and then sits untouched between jobs. That second part was the worry, because every inkjet I have owned before punished a fortnight of neglect with a blocked head and a wasted evening. This one runs a light clean on waking and then gets on with it, every time. Output is the reason to buy it. The two extra inks over a standard four-colour machine show up in skies and in skin, and a print in a frame holds its own beside lab work. Borderless is clean, glossy dries fast, and matte paper does not curl the way it used to. A year and a half in, I have been through three bottles of black and one each of the colours, which is nothing at all for the volume that has gone through it.

Set up in a corner of the studio to run proofs before anything goes off to the lab, and it has already saved one job from going out wrong. Colours on plain paper are near enough to judge a layout by, and on photo paper the screen match is close enough that the lab print rarely surprises me now. Came off a five-year-old all-in-one that was costing a small fortune in cartridges for the handful of photos it actually printed. The sums on a tank machine only work if you use it, and now that filling it costs almost nothing, we print constantly. The six-ink set is the interesting part. Photos have a depth the old four-ink never got near, particularly down in the shadows, and there is no purple cast in a grey sky. Prints on the sample paper in the box came out flat and dry with no curl at all. On the practical side: it found the wifi first time, the phone printed without an account, and the window on the front means you can see at a glance what is running low. No scanner, so do check that is what you want.

Bought to print for a craft business and it has changed what I am able to offer. Six colours means the reds and greens that used to come out flat now match the design on screen closely enough that nobody queries them. Eight months in, printing perhaps two hundred sheets between one refill and the next, and I have topped up black once and nothing else. Borderless A4 comes off clean edge to edge. It is print-only, which suits me, and it means the footprint is smaller than any all-in-one would have been.

Two things worth knowing before ordering. The first is the initial charge: filling six tanks and letting the machine prime itself takes the best part of an hour and there is no rushing it. The second is that it is print-only, which the listing says plainly but still catches people out on a machine this size. With those out of the way it is very good indeed. Photos on glossy are the equal of anything I have had done in a shop, the greys in a black and white image are properly neutral, and there is none of the banding a four-ink printer leaves in a clear sky. Plain paper text is the weak spot. Perfectly readable, but the letters have a softness a laser would never allow, and I would not send a contract out on it. Photo mode is leisurely too, so a batch of prints is something you start after supper.
