Text is softer than a laser once a document gets dense

Bought as a family photo printer that could also handle the school letters, and it manages both, which is rarer than it sounds. Six inks means the photo side is genuinely good: postcard prints on glossy come out with proper contrast rather than the muddy purple a four-ink machine gives you, and an A4 enlargement holds up in a frame on the wall. Documents are where it gives ground. Plain text is fine at a glance, but the edges are softer than a laser and a dense table looks a little woolly beside one, so anything going out to a client still goes to the office machine. The touch screen is bright and quick, the disc tray is a nice throwback for anyone still burning them, and the tanks sit in full view at the front so you are never guessing. It is not fast, and it fusses noisily before a photo, but neither of those bothers me!

The reason to buy this over the cheaper tank models is the two extra inks, and you see them in skin tones straight away. My portraits stopped going orange. Four months in it has run one head clean of its own accord, and that was after a fortnight away over the summer, so the usual worry about inkjets drying up seems overdone here.

I run a small stationery sideline out of the dining room: invitations, place cards, the odd print for a customer. It takes card up to a decent weight through the rear slot without jamming, and the colour has stayed consistent across jobs, which matters when somebody comes back wanting more of the same in eight months' time.

Came off an old four-cartridge printer that cost a fortune to keep alive, and this is a revelation by comparison. The tanks took a while to fill and prime, half an hour all in, and after that it has simply worked. Wifi joined at the first go, the phone found it without needing an app, and the first photo out of it went straight on the fridge!
