Screen is enormous and the refresh rate is glorious
The best display I have ever gamed on, and I have gamed on a few
Used for: Less than a month
Nothing has come close to slowing it down
Straight out of the box it hammered everything!

Loud, hot on the right hand side, and the battery is decorative
Plenty of people love this machine and I can see why on paper, but living with it has worn me down. On any profile that lets the chip stretch its legs the fans reach a level where the family shut the door, and I have measured 78 degrees on the metal above the number row during an ordinary evening of gaming. Away from a socket it is close to useless. Something under ninety minutes of light work, less if anything at all is happening, and the charger is the heaviest thing I own that is not a kettle. The keyboard is good and the screen is superb, so this is not a bad laptop, it is a desktop that has been made to fold in half. Nine months in I would take an 18 inch desktop replacement with a plug and a smaller battery instead.

One fan developed a faint tick under load
Four stars rather than five because one of the fans has picked up a slight tick when it spins up past a certain point. It has not got worse and it makes no difference to how the thing runs, but on a machine at this price you notice. Everything else has been faultless. Nothing has troubled it, temperatures under a long session sit around 76 degrees, and the screen still earns a second look.
Used for: More than a year
Has not slowed down at all
You need a rucksack rather than a shoulder bag
Bought it as a desktop replacement for a flat with no room for a tower and it has done exactly that job ever since. It gets moved rarely, and the rest of the time it sits on a stand with everything plugged into it and a proper keyboard in front!
Used for: More than a year
Still runs everything at maximum after a year of heavy use
This has been the main machine for gaming, streaming and a fair bit of video work, and a year on the only maintenance it has needed is a puff of air through the vents. The things I would tell anyone considering it: the keyboard is genuinely good, with enough travel that I type on it rather than reaching for an external one. The speakers are loud and surprisingly full for a laptop. The lighting is ridiculous and can be turned off in about four clicks. And the screen, which is the part I underestimated, is bright and fast enough at 240Hz that I have stopped using the monitor next to it. It is a lot of laptop and it earns the space.
Used for: 3–6 months
Everything at the top settings, no compromises, no fiddling with sliders. That is what the money was for and that is exactly what turned up. The fans are loud when it is working hard, which seems to shock people, but nobody buys an 18 inch machine expecting a whisper!
Used for: 6–12 months
Heat comes straight out onto the mouse hand
The performance is not in question, so three stars is entirely about where the heat goes. Air exits the right hand side directly onto the hand holding the mouse, and after an hour of anything demanding that hand is uncomfortably warm. I have moved to an external keyboard and pushed the machine off to the left, which solves it and rather defeats the point of a laptop. Eight months in nothing has gone wrong and nothing has slowed down. I just wish somebody at the design stage had sat and played a game on it with a mouse in their right hand.
Used for: 3–6 months
Very fast when it wants to be
Fan noise makes it a headphones only machine
Great performance, though the noise means it never leaves the spare room
