Blacks on this screen ruined every other laptop for me, and in a dark room the contrast is nearer a television than a notebook. Games look extraordinary and film looks better still. The cost is reflections. Sat with a window behind me I spend half the time looking at myself, so the desk got moved. Worth it, but be aware of where you work.

Three stars is about expectations more than faults. It is quick and it is beautifully put together, but a machine this thin has to move a lot of air and on Turbo it is easily the loudest laptop I have owned, a proper whoosh rather than a hum. The other thing nobody says is that the palm rest on the right hand side warms up under a long session, not painfully, but enough that I notice. On the balanced profile both problems mostly go away and so does a fair chunk of the performance.

Came from a full desktop and expected to be disappointed, and instead I have not turned the desktop on since it arrived. Everything runs at settings I would have called optimistic on a laptop, and it does it without sounding like a hairdryer on the balanced profile. What nobody warns you about is the power supply. It is a brick in the proper sense, and once it is in the bag alongside the machine you are carrying something closer to four kilos. On battery it will do a working day of ordinary things quite happily, but a game empties it in about an hour, so the brick comes along whether you like it or not!

The thing that keeps impressing me is the temperature. Under a long session the top of the keyboard warms up as you would expect, but where my hands actually sit stays around 32 degrees, which was not true of the last two gaming laptops I owned, and nine months in that has not changed. The port arrangement is my only real complaint. Charging over USB-C is brilliant for travel, but only one of the two ports will do it, and naturally it is on the side where the mouse cable wants to be. Small thing, still irritating every day.
