Everything mapped in Live before I had made a coffee
The pads are smaller than a dedicated grid
The desk holds a laptop, a 27in screen, an interface and this, and the 49-key body was the largest thing that would fit without moving the monitor. Bus power was the other requirement: one lead to the laptop and nothing else behind the desk. What surprised me is how much of Live it drives. Device banks on the knobs, session clips on the pads, mixer on the faders, capture MIDI on a button I now use constantly. Nine months in I have not opened the MIDI mapping window once. The pads are the compromise. Consistent velocity, adjustable curve, but small, and if finger drumming is your main thing you will want a grid alongside it.

The plastic body flexes if you pick it up by one end
The arpeggiator and the chord mode have written more of my last EP than I would like to admit, and all of it runs off the one USB cable!
Used for: Less than a month
Scale mode makes a non-keyboard player sound competent
Bought it for my partner, who plays guitar and cannot read music. Scale mode means nothing she plays lands wrong, and she has not stopped since.

A first controller for a teenager and she has taken to it
The protective stickers on the keys did not come off cleanly
Bought for my daughter's bedroom setup after she outgrew a 25-key mini one. The extra octaves matter more than I expected; she plays with two hands now, and the pads keep her off the mouse entirely. Setting it up took about ten minutes on her laptop with no drivers to hunt down. She has been in there every evening since, which at her age is either lovely or expensive.
Used for: Less than a month
Bus powered and light enough to carry anywhere
The chord buttons are easy to catch by accident
Goes in a rucksack with the laptop and comes out in a friend's front room ready to work. That is exactly what I wanted from it!
Used for: 3–6 months
Keys feel far better than the price suggests
No aftertouch
Does everything Live does, from the keys
Used for: 1–3 months
Ableton integration that needs no setup whatsoever
Plugged in, opened Live, and the session grid was on the pads immediately, though I read the manual anyway
Used for: More than a year
The faders are short and a bit light
The only casualty of gigging it in a soft case is a slightly shiny mod wheel. That is 18 months of weekends, and it still tracks every note and still needs nothing but the laptop lead
