Still the fastest machine here after eighteen months
Only if you keep the firmware current
Still the fastest machine in the house by a distance. Updated the firmware when the fix came out, capped the power sensibly, and it has behaved perfectly since. Would happily buy it again.
Used for: Less than a month
Quick and well behaved on current firmware
Runs hot, exactly as everyone says
Built on a board that was already on current firmware, and so far it has been quick and completely well behaved. Runs hot, as advertised.
Used for: 3–6 months
A 200W cap makes it a completely different machine
Unrestricted it will outrun any cooler you fit
The performance is not the story here, the power is. Left alone this thing will draw whatever the board offers it, and my 240 AIO simply could not keep up, hitting the limiter within a minute of any real load. Setting a 200W cap five months ago changed the machine completely. Temperatures dropped into the seventies, the fans went quiet, and the only thing I lost was about six percent in benchmarks I do not actually run. Should not be necessary out of the box.
Used for: Less than a month
Exports went from twenty minutes to eleven on the same board
Picked one up to breathe life into an LGA 1700 machine rather than rebuild the whole thing, and that has worked out beautifully. Same board, same memory, same cooler, and video exports that used to take twenty minutes now take eleven.
Used for: More than a year
Hard use from the outset and it has been exactly what I wanted from a top end Intel chip. Everything is instant, twenty four cores means nothing queues, and once the firmware was current it has never given me a moment of instability.
Used for: 1–3 months
Twenty four cores handle anything at once
Buy the biggest cooler you can fit
Everything I can throw at it and it has not blinked once
