  • TOTheo O.31 August 2026

Used for: More than a year

    Pros

Passive power off the line means no socket at the midpoint

    Cons

No weatherproof housing, so you provide your own box

    Comment

Works exactly as described, but do not imagine you can simply leave it in a hedge. Mine lives in a cheap plastic junction box on a fence post and has survived two winters that way.

  • MBMaya B.24 August 2026

Used for: More than a year

    Pros

Turned an unreliable long run into a reliable one

    Cons

The documentation assumes you already understand passive power

    Comment

Bought after a CCTV camera at the end of the drive spent a winter dropping off every time it rained. The cable had been run by somebody optimistic and the 80 metres of it were well past what that camera could cope with. Sitting this in the middle has stopped the problem completely and there has not been a single dropout since, wet or dry.

  • IWIsla W.11 August 2026

Used for: More than a year

    Pros

It sits in a box on a post and is simply forgotten about

    Comment

Three years in a fence post box and the link has never dropped

  • SGSophie G.1 August 2026

Used for: Less than a month

    Pros

Straight into the middle of the run and the link came up

    Cons

No mounting hardware in the box

    Comment

The garden office had been on a wireless bridge that fell over whenever the trees were wet. Cut into the existing buried cable, dropped this into the middle of it, and it has been a proper wired connection ever since. Nothing whatever to configure, which is the best sort of product!

  • TETheo E.7 July 2026

    Used for: 3–6 months

    Pros

No power needed at the midpoint, which was the whole problem

    Cons

You have to supply your own weatherproofing

    Comment

The point of it is that there is no socket halfway down a field, and it solves precisely that. Four months of rain later, still passing a full gigabit

  • IBIsla B.6 July 2026

Used for: More than a year

    Pros

Solved a run that was too long, and quietly

    Cons

You will need an enclosure for it

    Comment

Cheapest solution to a very long cable run, by miles

  • DFDaisy F.3 July 2026

    Used for: 3–6 months

    Pros

Cheaper than fibre and far easier than digging the garden again

    Cons

Getting the passive voltage right takes some reading

    Comment

Used one to reach a summerhouse at the end of a garden where the cable was already in the ground and about 20 metres too long to work reliably. This fixed it for the price of an afternoon. The only part that needed thought was the power. Passive injection is not the same thing as the standard sort, and you do need to check what voltage you are putting down the line before you plug anything into either end.

  • FRFreya R.7 June 2026

    Used for: 6–12 months

    Pros

A wired link to the barn with no power supply out there

    Comment

The run to the barn is about 140 metres and it never worked properly on a single cable, which is exactly the problem this is built for. Dropped it in halfway, took its power off the same cable, and there have been nine months of full gigabit since!
