Good value and I would buy it again for the same job, but there is one thing the listing does not shout about. This is a DRAM-less, QLC-adjacent budget drive and the write cache is small. In practice that means the first thirty or forty gigabytes fly across at Gen4 speeds and then everything after that crawls at about 250MB/s until the drive catches up. If you are installing games, that never matters. If you regularly dump hundreds of gigabytes at once, it very much does, and I found that out moving a video archive onto it. Three months in it has been reliable, temperatures are fine at 47 degrees under load, and for the money I have no real complaint. Just know what you are buying.

Put this in a PS5 as the expansion drive, mostly out of curiosity because everyone says you need one of the expensive ones. The console accepted it, ran its speed test, and passed it without complaint. Games moved onto it load within a second of how they load from the internal drive, which for a drive at this price is the whole story. I did fit a cheap heatsink because the console bay has no airflow to speak of and I did not fancy finding out. The only thing I would flag is that it does not come with the heatsink or the screw, so factor that in. Otherwise it does everything the pricier drives do in a console.

Cheapest Gen4 terabyte I could find that was not from a brand I had never heard of, and for a secondary games drive it is exactly right. Installed it, moved about six hundred gigabytes of games across, and the copy sat around 900MB/s once the initial burst was over. Loading times in game are identical to the more expensive drive holding Windows, which is the point everyone misses about these budget drives. It is single sided and has no heatsink, so it went in the slot under the graphics card where nothing else would fit, and it has stayed in the low fifties there. For what it cost that is a result.

This has been the boot drive in a machine that gets switched on at seven every morning and hammered until the evening, and it has never given a reason to think about it. What I would say to anyone weighing it against the expensive drives is that the difference in daily use is nothing. Windows boots in nine seconds. Programs open instantly. The spreadsheet that used to take twenty seconds to open takes two. Whether the drive can do seven thousand megabytes a second or three thousand makes no difference at all to any of that.

Fitted this as a second drive when the original was down to its last forty gigabytes, and it has done the job it was bought for. Setting expectations properly, because that is what most reviews of budget drives get wrong. It is not as quick as the drive it sits next to, and if you look at a benchmark you will see that plainly. What it is, is quick enough that in eight months of use I have not once thought about it while actually using the machine. The reason for four stars is the sustained write behaviour, which caught me out once. Backing up a large virtual machine image, about ninety gigabytes, the transfer started fast and then fell to a third of the speed. It still finished, it just took longer than the first minute suggested it would. For games, documents and general storage it is faultless.

Bought two of these for a pair of office machines that needed more room than speed, and both have been quietly reliable. Eight months on, no errors, no slowdown, and neither user has noticed anything except that things open faster than they used to. At this price I would not hesitate to buy a third!

Fitted one to an old laptop that was crawling on a mechanical drive and the machine is genuinely usable again. Boot went from over a minute to about twelve seconds. Opening a browser with twenty tabs no longer means going to make a cup of tea. The battery seems to last a little longer too, which makes sense given what it replaced. Four months of daily carrying about and it has not skipped once!
