Hands free filming that nobody objects to
You cannot see what you are framing
Filming a kitchen fit-out for the customer and this hangs off the collar all day while both hands work. Nobody minds it the way they mind a phone on a tripod
Used for: 6–12 months
The magnet struggles through heavy winter fabric
Brilliant camera, but the magnet will not hold through a thick coat
Used for: More than a year
The exposed lens scratches without a cover
Nothing has gone wrong with it in the fifteen months I have had it, which is why the rating stands. The one thing I would warn about is the lens unit picking up hairline scratches, because it is the part that goes against a coat and there is no cover on it by default. Mine looks worse than it films, but it does look worse.
Used for: More than a year
Has survived two years of commuting
Charging port cover is flimsy
Two years of commuting on the helmet and still going strong
Used for: 3–6 months
Two batteries between the parts means a full day out
Battery in the recorder plus the one in the lens means a full day of intermittent clips without charging anything. Took it round a car show in February, cold all afternoon, and it did not drop a frame
Used for: 6–12 months
The magnetic mount sticks to absolutely everything
The magnet is the whole product. It goes on a cap, a jacket collar, the fridge, the side of the van, and it holds. First person footage without a head strap digging in has changed what I bother to film at all. Separating the lens from the recorder means the heavy bit sits in a pocket and only the small bit is on show, which stops people noticing you are filming. Half a year of school runs, bike rides and one very wet festival and it is still perfect!
Used for: 6–12 months
Small enough to mount anywhere
No screen, so you frame by guesswork
Bought it to film the dog from her height and the results are far better than expected
Used for: 1–3 months
Clips to the peak of a cap and you forget it is there!
Used for: 6–12 months
The phone app is quick and stays out of the way
You end up buying more mounts than you planned
Ended up with this after borrowing a friend's and being annoyed at how much better it was than the thing on my own helmet. The app is genuinely the best part of the package, quick to connect and it does not lecture you about firmware before it will show you a clip. Eight months in, the only complaint is that the magnetic mounts multiply and I now own six of them, all in different bags!
Used for: 3–6 months
Mounts where a bigger camera would be in the way
Stabilisation is a step behind the big names
Used for climbing videos, where the whole point is that nobody wants a camera on their harness. This one clips to the shoulder strap and stays put on an overhang. Stabilisation is not quite the equal of the big names when things get properly shaky, though on anything short of a fall it is more than good enough. Footage straight off it needs no work at all.
