The console has never once complained
A PS5 cannot use half of what it can do
Went into a PS5 with an aftermarket heatsink and the console has been perfectly happy with it for eight months. Loading is quick enough that the difference against the internal drive is not something I can honestly claim to notice.
Used for: 1–3 months
Never throttles under a long write
The active heatsink fan spoils a quiet build
Excellent drive, and the only reason it is not five is the cooling situation. On this board the Gen5 slot heatsink has an active fan, and under a long write that fan is clearly audible over everything else in the case. The drive itself never throttles, which is presumably the fan doing its job, but if you have built a quiet machine deliberately then be aware that a Gen5 drive changes that. Performance is not in question at all.

The price still stings
No faults at all, and it has been in constant use since the machine was built. The only thing I would change is the price, which still stings.

Never once complained
Runs hot without a proper heatsink
Fastest drive in the house and it has never once complained. Superb!

A hundred thousand small files copy in no time
Far too hot for a laptop
Two of these in a workstation, one for the operating system and one for project files, and the pair have handled everything a year of client work has thrown at them. The useful measure for me is not the peak number, it is that a folder of a hundred thousand small files copies in a fraction of the time the old drives took. Wear indicators are both at three per cent. Only complaint is that the drive is unusable in a laptop, far too hot.

Holds the same numbers it did on day one
Two terabytes of Gen5 in the primary slot, and a year on it still holds the same benchmark numbers it did the day it went in!
Used for: 1–3 months
Replaced a pair of Gen3 drives with this single one and reclaimed a slot in the process, which was half the reason for buying it. Copying everything across from both old drives, about 1.4 terabytes in total, took under six minutes and the drive did not drop below 4GB/s at any point. That is the bit that impressed me, because every drive is fast for the first thirty seconds. It does want a heatsink. Mine is under the motherboard's own and idles at 44, which is warm but nothing to worry about, and it has not throttled once.

Virtual machines boot almost instantly
Needs a board that can actually feed it
Bought to hold a growing library of virtual machines and it has made spinning one up almost instant. Boot a VM, it is at the login screen before the window has finished drawing. Nothing else I have used comes close for that particular job!
Used for: 3–6 months
Speed nothing else in the build can match
Expensive
Ridiculous speed. The rest of the machine cannot keep up
