Nothing in the shop came close
Best thing we have bought for this house in years!

The pointer remote beats hunting round a d-pad
Coming from a plasma that finally gave up, the jump is hard to explain to anyone who has not sat in front of one. Bright rooms are its weak spot, though — with the curtains open at midday the picture loses some of its punch, and this is a telly you want to watch in the evening

Blacks that make the room feel darker
Feet sit far too wide for our unit
The supplied feet are set right out at the corners, so it overhangs the sideboard by a hand either side. Everything else about it has been a joy!

The picture is everything you would hope for
Wall mounting is a two-person job and the box is enormous
Getting it up on the wall took two of us, a borrowed spirit level and most of a Sunday. The box will not go through a standard doorway square on, so bear that in mind if you live up a narrow staircase. Once it was on the bracket the panel sits close enough to the plaster to look painted on. Sound is where the missing star went. On its own the speakers are perfectly clear for the news, but the moment a score comes in under the dialogue you lose half of what anyone is saying, and turning it up only makes the music louder. We ended up with a bar underneath, which rather undoes the tidy look we were after.

Game mode drops the lag to nothing you can feel
Reflections in a bright room
Our lad plugged his console in and the first thing he said was that it felt like the monitor upstairs. Game mode comes on by itself and there is none of that soggy delay you get on cheaper sets, so 2 months in he has stopped complaining, which is praise of a sort. In daylight the glass does throw the window back at you, and the sofa has been moved once already to get away from it.

Needs almost nothing doing out of the box
The stand feet are miles apart
2 weeks in and I have barely touched a setting
Used for: 1–3 months
The wall was measured three times and it still looked absurd for the first fortnight. You sit back a little, your eyes settle, and after that nothing else will do. Straight out of the box in the film preset it was already closer to right than the shop demo, which was blaring away in a vivid mode with the sharpening wound up. Blacks are what people go on about and they are right, but what struck me more was the detail just above black. A ship at night is a ship, not a smear. The only grumbles are a home screen busier with promoted films than it needs to be, and speakers that give up the moment a score comes in. Ours runs through the amp, so that hardly matters!

Football looks natural once the smoothing is off
Home screen adverts creep back after an update
Turning the interpolation off was the first job — on the default setting a Saturday kick-off looked like a soap opera, everyone gliding about. Off, it is film again. 8 months in the picture has not shifted a shade, but an update in the spring quietly put the promoted rows back at the top of the home screen.

Smart menus crawl once a few apps are open
The picture deserves 5 stars and the software does not. Flicking from the sports app back to live telly there is a pause where nothing happens, and you press the button a second time. Worth the wait for that picture, though.
