Used for: More than a year

    Pros

Two years of daily use with no maintenance at all

    Cons

It shows up every mark on a painted wall

    Comment

Bought when the old lamp unit finally gave up, and the running cost has been the story ever since. No lamps, no filters, no service visit and no fading; the laser is quoted at 20,000 hours and the picture in the second year is the picture from the first week. A year in we moved it onto a proper board rather than the painted wall, and I wish we had done that at the start. On plaster the texture catches the light at that angle and text has a faint sparkle you stop noticing but never quite unsee. Otherwise it simply works, every day, all day, and it is quiet enough that a class does not talk over it.

    Used for: 1–3 months

    Pros

Handles a bright room without complaint

    Cons

The built in speaker is a last resort

    Comment

Sound is the only weak spot and everybody knows that going in: the internal speaker exists so a laptop clip is audible in an emergency, nothing more. Ours goes out to a pair of wall speakers and that was always the plan. Picture in a bright room is the reason to buy one, and on that it is exactly as promised.

  • GCGeorge C.11 August 2026

    Used for: 3–6 months

    Pros

Very bright and very even across the whole image

    Cons

Fan noise rises noticeably in the brightest mode

    Comment

Four months of use in a room that seats 40, and the picture has been beyond reproach: bright with the lights on, even from corner to corner, and colour that does not shift as the room warms up through the afternoon. The noise is worth knowing about. In the standard mode it is a background hush nobody notices. Put it into the brightest setting for a room with the blinds up and the fan is clearly audible from the front rows, enough that a quiet video needs the volume up. We leave it in the middle setting now and pull the nearest blind instead. The other note is cabling: the sockets face sideways under a cover, and the cover fouls the bracket arm, so plan the lead route before it goes on the wall.

  • LALeo A.8 August 2026

    Used for: 1–3 months

    Pros

Laser starts instantly, with no warm up

    Cons

The remote is tiny for a room this size

    Comment

Ours goes on and off perhaps 15 times a day as rooms change over, and the instant start is worth more than anything on the spec sheet. No dimming, no cooling cycle to sit through before somebody can move it on to the next thing. Brightness is comfortably enough for a room with three windows down one side, and the automatic keystone gets close before the corner adjustment finishes the job. The remote is the only silly part: a small plastic thing that goes missing between rooms and needs pointing at the unit rather than at the screen, which is behind you.

  • IDIsla D.28 July 2026

Used for: Less than a month

    Pros

A huge image from almost no distance

    Cons

You will want a proper screen surface

    Comment

Sits a hand's width from the wall and fills the whole of it, which still makes people stop in the doorway and stare!

  • LSLouie S.13 July 2026

    Used for: 3–6 months

    Pros

    Bright, sharp and silent enough

    Cons

Nothing beyond the price of the bracket

    Comment

Does everything the old lamp projector could not!

  • FSFlorence S.30 June 2026

    Used for: 3–6 months

    Pros

Colour stays bright with the lights on

    Comment

The reason for choosing the Epson over the DLP alternative was colour brightness, and in a room full of fluorescent tubes you can see it: reds and greens stay saturated rather than going pastel the moment somebody flicks the lights on. We run it in a training room where the lights have to stay up for people taking notes, and nobody has asked for the blinds to come down since.

  • FDFlorence D.17 June 2026

Used for: Less than a month

    Comment

Straight swap for a unit that had hung from the ceiling for years and threw its beam right across the teacher's desk. This one sits above the board and nobody walks through it any more, which sounds like a small thing until you have spent a term being blinded every time you point at something. Setup was an afternoon including the bracket, and the picture squared up with the corner tools inside 10 minutes.

  • LMLeo M.9 June 2026

    Used for: 1–3 months

    Pros

    No shadows and no dazzle

    Cons

    Wants a very flat wall

    Comment

Teaching in front of the board instead of dodging round a beam has changed the room completely!

  • ALArthur L.4 June 2026

Used for: Less than a month

    Pros

An enormous picture from a few inches of wall space

    Cons

Bracket and screen add a great deal to the bill

    Comment

First week with it, and the install is the story rather than the picture. It sits so close to the wall that the bracket does all the work; get it a couple of millimetres out of square and the image is a trapezium you then correct in software, which costs you sharpness you have paid for. We drilled twice, the second time with a laser level and a lot more care. Once right, the result is genuinely impressive: a 100 inch image with the presenter standing beside the screen and not a shadow anywhere on it. The other cost is the surface. On a painted wall it works, but the texture shows at that angle, so a proper board went up as well and that was not in the original budget. Picture, brightness and quiet running all deserve full marks; the honest cost of getting there is what takes one off.
