The lower memory bank is behind the card, so a ten minute job is forty

Five stars because it does the job it was bought for perfectly, and one long complaint about a small thing. The chassis is superb to work in — catches instead of screws, caddies that come out by hand, a fan wall that lifts away — right up until you want to reach the lower memory bank, at which point the card shroud has to come out, and the shroud will not come out with a full-length card fitted. So the one job in the machine that is genuinely serviceable at the desk is the one job that needs the card out first. Ten minutes becomes forty. Everything else about the design suggests somebody who has actually maintained one of these for a living, which makes this corner all the odder!

Perfect for what we do until the day someone wants a second card in it, at which point the layout starts arguing with you — the shroud has to come out, and the lower slot loses airflow. As a single-card machine for long solves it has been flawless and it is astonishingly quiet doing it.

It has been running batch jobs overnight for a year and a half and the only maintenance has been blowing the filter out. Clocks hold, nothing has ever crashed, and the studio has never once complained about the noise.
