Bought for a retired couple who had not owned a computer in a decade and were dreading the whole business. It came out of the box, went on the table, and asked three questions. Since then there has been one phone call, about a printer, though that was our fault rather than the machine's. The 24 inch screen is big enough that neither of them needs glasses for it!

Went onto a reception desk at our clinic because it had to look like it belonged there and take up almost nothing, and it does both. Patients comment on it, which no computer we have had has ever managed. Four stars only because the ports are behind it, so anything the receptionist needs to plug in means turning the whole thing round.

This took over from a machine that had been in the house since my children were at primary school, and the difference is not one thing, it is all of them. It is silent. It wakes instantly. From cold it is at the desktop in about 15 seconds. The screen means the second monitor that used to sit beside it has gone, and the desk is now a table with a keyboard on it. The only money spent since has been an external drive for photographs, which was always going to happen with a library this size!

It went into a bedroom that doubles as an office, so silence mattered more than speed, and there has not been a sound out of it yet. Setting it up took about 25 minutes, including moving everything across from the old machine, and both of the screens the household uses were recognised without a driver being mentioned. The things worth knowing before ordering: the stand is a fixed height, the ports are on the back, and whatever memory is chosen on the day is what it will always have. None of that has been a problem, but all of it is easier to know first.

Coming up to two years with this on a kitchen table, used by four people for everything from homework to accounts. What has held up: the screen still looks like it did on the first day, nothing has slowed down, and it has been switched off perhaps five times, all for building work rather than anything it did. What has not: 24GB felt generous and now feels merely adequate, with a browser, a photo library and a spreadsheet open at once. It cannot be added to, though, and that is the one decision I would make differently. The ports are the other well known thing, and the hub that solves it has been on the desk since the first month, so the clean look lasted about as long as the unboxing.

Six weeks in and the honest summary is that the computer is faultless and the accessories are not. The keyboard is lovely to type on, the mouse charges from a socket underneath which means it cannot be used while it charges, and the whole lot together costs more than it ought to. The machine itself deserves five.

Five months of running a two person design studio on one of these, and it has been almost entirely good. The screen is the reason to buy it. Colour is consistent, text is sharp enough to read for a whole day without eyes going, and it is bright enough beside a window in the afternoon. It has never been heard, even with three applications open and an export running, and it comes back from sleep before a hand reaches the mouse. The reservations are the usual ones. Memory and storage are what they are on the day of ordering, and 24GB is comfortable now but is not something that can be revisited. And two ports means a hub, and a hub means the desk is not quite the clean thing in the photographs.
