This is the in-ceiling sub that goes with a run of Control ceiling speakers, and it is the piece most people leave out and then wonder why the system sounds thin. Ours went into the void above a restaurant bar, on the 100 volt tap so it sits on the same line as everything else. Eight months in it has done exactly what it should, which is put a floor under the music without anyone noticing where it comes from. It is heavy though, and the void needs to be deep.

Worth understanding what this is before you buy: it is a subwoofer that lives in the ceiling, with a transformer on the back so it can hang off a 100 volt line with the rest of the speakers. That is very neat in a commercial fit and slightly awkward at home. We put one in an open-plan kitchen and living space with six Control ceiling speakers, and the difference it makes to anything with a bassline is out of proportion to what it cost. Voices and detail come from the small speakers, weight comes from above the hallway, and the whole room sounds even. The two catches are depth and weight. Ten months in the fixing is fine, but our joiner had to trim a noggin to get the can in, and it wants a proper safety wire.
