Used for: More than a year
Ordered one to complete an existing run and it matched the others exactly, same grille, same white
Used for: More than a year
Sold singly, which suits an odd-numbered corridor run
Easy to order one when you meant a pair
Note the 1Pcs in the title, because I nearly ordered one and then wondered where the other was. These are sold singly, which is actually the right way round for a commercial job where you want an odd number down a corridor. We have eleven of them through a dental practice, tapped at two watts, and the background music is present everywhere without ever being loud at the reception desk.
Used for: 1–3 months
Well made and the transformer taps are clearly marked
Expensive for a single 4 inch speaker
Fine speaker, but at this money for a single 4 inch unit you notice you are paying for the transformer more than the driver
Used for: 3–6 months
150mm cut-out fits a shallow void
No bass to speak of from a 4 inch cone
Small enough that the cut-out is only 150mm, which is the difference between fitting between the joists and not. Ours went into a shop ceiling where the void is shallow and there was no chance of anything bigger. The 4 inch driver is not going to do bass, and it does not need to.
Used for: 3–6 months
Tap settings let you vary the level along the run
You need a lot of them, so the total adds up
We run a small cafe and wanted music that reaches the tables at the back without deafening anyone queueing at the counter. Our installer put nine of these across the ceiling on a 100 volt line, tapped down to one watt at the counter end and four at the back, and that is the whole trick: with one big speaker you cannot do that, with nine little ones you can. The grilles came white and got sprayed to match our ceiling colour before they went up, which the installer did with the mesh masked off. You cannot see them unless you look. Five months in and staff have stopped fiddling with the volume, which they did constantly with the old system. Best money we have spent on the room!

Have shrugged off a damp changing room
These have been in a leisure centre changing area since the refit and the humidity has done nothing to them. The grilles still look new and the terminals have not gone green. For that environment they have earned their keep!

Tap switch on the back is clear and positive
You cannot change the tap once the can is in the ceiling
Bought singly over a couple of orders to build up a run through a village pub, which is how these are meant to be sold and it worked well enough. Two things I would tell anyone doing the same. First, the transformer tap is selected with a little rotary switch on the back of the can, and once it is in the ceiling you are not getting at it again without dropping the speaker, so decide the tap on the bench and write it on the plan. Second, the terminal block is a screw type but it is right at the edge of the can, and with a cable coming in at an angle it is a knuckle-grazer. 18 months in they have been faultless and nobody has ever remarked on them, which for background music is the compliment.
