No sign of corrosion in a coastal building
Painting the grille takes care around the mesh
Two years in a coastal community centre with salt air coming through the vents and there is no corrosion on the grilles at all. Painted them cream to match the ceiling and they have stayed that way
Used for: Less than a month
Still identical to units fitted years ago
No pair pricing, you buy them one at a time
Ordered a pair to extend an existing run in a garden room and they matched the ones fitted at the original build exactly, same grille pattern and same white. The tap switch is on the back and it clicks properly rather than sliding about!
Used for: 1–3 months
Good speaker, though the certification paperwork is a download rather than in the box
Used for: Less than a month
Certification covers the whole assembly, dome included
The cut-out is big for a suspended grid, so check tile sizes
Specified across a three storey office fit-out where the fire strategy needed voice alarm in every open area, and these were the only certified coaxial we could find at anything like sensible money. What matters on a job like this is that the certification covers the whole assembly, dome and terminal block included, so the commissioning engineer is not looking for a separate fire hood and a data sheet that does not match. Everything is on the one label on the back of the can. Cut-out is generous for an eight inch driver but they still went between the grid tiles without any trimming, and the coverage from a 2.7 metre ceiling means we needed fewer of them than the original layout assumed. Came in under the speaker budget for once!
Used for: 6–12 months
Certified for voice alarm, so one speaker does both jobs
Heavier than a plain ceiling speaker once the fire dome is on
The reason you buy this one rather than a cheaper ceiling speaker is the EN 54-24 certification, which means it can carry the voice alarm as well as the background music. Our fire engineer signed off the whole scheme on the strength of it. Ceramic terminal block, thermal fuse, steel fire dome on the back, all as it should be. Ten months in a busy warehouse office and the intelligibility on a test evacuation message was better than the old horns ever managed.
Used for: 3–6 months
Coping with a commercial kitchen ceiling
Not a wet-rated speaker, so keep them clear of the hob
Went into a kitchen ceiling in a pub and the steam has not touched them
Used for: Less than a month
Certified kit at an uncertified price
Only one grille colour
Cheapest certified speaker on the list, but the build shames things twice the money!
Used for: 6–12 months
Speech comes through clearly at the far end of a workshop with the extraction running
Used for: 3–6 months
Fire dome comes fitted, so no extra part to source
The clamps need a long screwdriver on a deep tile
Fitted forty of these through an office refurbishment and the fitters were pleased with them, which is not a thing fitters usually say. The ceramic block takes a proper twist of cable, the fire dome is already attached, and the tile clamps swing out with a screwdriver you already have in your hand!
