You lose a fair chunk of the advertised terabyte to formatting

Replaced an ageing SATA SSD in a laptop and the difference is not subtle. The clone took about twenty five minutes with the Crucial tool, most of which was me reading the instructions twice. Windows came up first time on the new drive, no licence nag, no driver hunting. Cold boot went from thirty seconds to eight, and the big design package that used to take a minute to open is up before I have finished sitting down. Worth saying that the 1TB gives you around 931GB usable, which caught out a friend who was budgeting to the last gigabyte. Also the drive is single sided, so it fits laptops that will not take a double sided module, which is exactly why I chose it over the cheaper option!

This went into a small form factor build where the motherboard has no M.2 heatsink at all, which I assumed would be a problem and it simply has not been. Gen4 without the Gen4 heat, basically. It idles in the mid thirties and the worst I have seen during a long game install is 58 degrees, in a case the size of a shoebox. Boot to desktop is under ten seconds and was still under ten seconds a year later. The one thing worth knowing before you buy is the sustained write. Copy more than about a hundred gigabytes in one go and the speed falls off a cliff, down to something a good SATA drive would manage. For installing games and loading them it makes no odds, for moving huge video files it will annoy you.
