    Used for: 3–6 months

    Cons

Runs hot enough that the heatsink is not optional

    Comment

Everything about this drive is right except one thing, and it is a thing you can plan around rather than a fault. It gets hot. Not dangerously, not enough to throttle with a heatsink over it, but if your only free M.2 slot is the one squeezed under the graphics card then buy the heatsink at the same time as the drive rather than a week later like I did.

Used for: More than a year

    Pros

No regrets at all about buying the biggest one

    Comment

Expensive, worth it, and a year and a half later I have not once wished I had saved the money by going smaller. Still the best part of the build!

    Used for: 3–6 months

    Pros

The last storage decision the console will need

    Comment

Put this in a PS5 and it is the last storage decision I will need to make for that console. Four terabytes takes everything I own with room for the next few years of releases. It passed the console's speed test comfortably and with a decent heatsink on it the console has never flagged a temperature!

  • TWTheo W.13 July 2026

    Used for: 6–12 months

    Pros

Big enough that you stop thinking about capacity

    Comment

The 4TB version is the one to get if you can stomach it, because the smaller drives fill up and then you are back here buying another one. Mine holds Windows, every game I own and the photo library, and it is still half empty. Ten months in the wear indicator has not moved off one per cent!

  • OROliver R.1 July 2026

Used for: More than a year

    Comment

Bought this when the 2TB in the same machine filled up for the second time, and the lesson I took from that is to buy the bigger drive first. A year and a bit later it is about two thirds full and I have stopped thinking about what to uninstall, which is worth more than any benchmark. The drive itself performs exactly as the smaller one did, holds its speed through large copies, and sits at 46 degrees under the board heatsink.

  • LSLouie S.26 June 2026

    Used for: 3–6 months

    Comment

Went into a machine used for architectural visualisation where scene files run to tens of gigabytes each. Opening one used to be a walk to the kettle, now it is a pause. The four terabytes means an entire project archive sits locally rather than on the network, which has changed how the whole day goes

  • IDIsla D.12 June 2026

    Used for: 3–6 months

    Pros

The card reader is now the slow part, not the drive

    Comment

Bought for a machine that ingests drone footage all day, where the limiting factor used to be how fast the card reader could empty onto the disk. Now the card reader is comfortably the bottleneck and the drive never breaks a sweat. A full 256GB card empties in about four minutes, which is the reader's limit rather than the drive's. Four terabytes means a whole shoot fits without archiving anything mid-job, and that alone justified the outlay!

  • WLWillow L.9 June 2026

    Used for: 6–12 months

    Pros

Everything finally lives on one drive

    Cons

Warm enough in the second slot to need a heatsink

    Comment

Four terabytes meant everything finally lives on one drive, no more juggling which games get installed. It does run warm in the second slot though, and I ended up buying a heatsink for it.

  • HRHarry R.6 June 2026

    Used for: 1–3 months

    Pros

Held above 1.2GB/s through a two terabyte copy

    Cons

Priced like the flagship it is

    Comment

Second Samsung drive in this machine and it behaves exactly like the first, which is what you want. Copied two terabytes of games onto it in one go and the speed held above 1.2GB/s the whole way, which surprised me!
