Our living room faces south and everything we tried before this washed out by lunchtime. This one does not. Highlights in a bright film still look like light rather than pale grey, and the cricket can be on at 2 in the afternoon without drawing anything across the window. Where it gives ground is the halo around bright things on a dark background. The credits at the end of a film carry a soft glow around the lettering if you look for it, and once seen it cannot be unseen. That is the missing star, along with a smart system that takes a moment too long to wake. The picture, though, is the best we have had in this room by a distance!

Kept it in the standard picture mode for a week and hated the plastic look of everything, then found the smoothing slider and dropped it to the lowest notch. Football is sharp on a pan now with none of that gliding. Sound, though, is the weak half: voices sit behind the music in anything dramatic, so a bar went underneath before the second month was out
