Used for: More than a year
Belkin charge a premium for a plain four-port hub and I paid it because the last two cheap ones failed within the year. This has not. The metal shell, the braided lead and the ports that still grip a plug are all worth something. Docking a star only because there is no video output at all, which the name rather implies there might be.
Used for: More than a year
Lives permanently in the side pocket of the laptop bag and has never let a meeting down
Used for: 6–12 months
Bought for a MacBook that has two ports and needs one of them for power. This gives back the USB-A ports that everything else in the office still uses, and it does not get warm doing it. Nine months in with no drop-outs at all. The only reason it is not five stars is the price for what is, honestly, four holes in a nice bit of aluminium!
Used for: 6–12 months
Built like it will outlast the laptop
No power passthrough, so it costs you the port it occupies
The build quality is not in question. It is a solid slab of aluminium with a braided cable and ports that have not loosened at all with daily use. What I did not think through before buying is that there is no charging passthrough. On a two-port laptop that means the hub takes one and the charger takes the other, and you are back to having nothing spare. If your machine has three ports it is a non-issue; on mine it is a daily nuisance.
Used for: 1–3 months
Feels like the laptop it is plugged into
Four ports only, so pick them carefully
Boring in the best possible way. It simply works
Used for: More than a year
Three years old, in and out of a bag daily, and still perfect
