The reason to spend this much rather than half is bandwidth you can actually use at the same time. Screen at full whack, a fast SSD copying, and the laptop charging, all without the mouse going jerky the way it did on my old hub. Two USB-A is stingy though, and a small four-port hub now hangs off it.

Sits under a monitor arm and handles everything a working day throws at it: one large display, an audio interface, a drive and the laptop on charge, all at once, no drop-outs and no fan noise because there is no fan. Whoever decided to emboss the port names in the same black as the shell has clearly never plugged anything in behind a monitor. I have put a strip of tape underneath with them written on in biro.

The desk had turned into a knot: charger, screen lead, two drives and a dongle for the network. All of that is now one USB-C cable that goes in when I sit down and comes out when I leave. What sold me over the cheaper hubs was that the screen keeps running at full rate while a drive is copying. On the last one, any file transfer made the pointer skip. A week in and I have not managed to make this one stumble yet, and I have tried, because I did not quite believe it!

Came from a cheap seven-in-one that could do video or storage but never both properly, and the difference is immediate. An 8K panel on the front room telly and a Thunderbolt drive on the back, both flat out, and nothing stutters. Two small gripes. The aluminium shell gets noticeably warm, not alarming but warm enough that I keep it clear of the laptop rather than tucked under it, and it marks with fingerprints the moment you touch it. Neither would stop me buying it again.

No complaints at all about how it performs. Four months in, running a screen and two drives daily, and it has not once needed unplugging to come back to life. The cable is the weak part: short, thick and springy, so left to itself the hub lifts off the desk and dangles from the laptop. A blob of putty underneath has fixed what the design should have.
