VGA and HDMI on one dongle, so no room can beat it
The captive lead is stiff and will not lie flat
Bought for a Surface that goes into a different building most weeks, and the reason it beat everything else on the shortlist is VGA alongside HDMI. Our estate has meeting rooms fitted anywhere between 2009 and last year, and this covers both ends of that. The captive lead is the weak point. It is short, which is fine, but it is stiff enough that the dongle will not lie flat on a table; it props itself up on the cable like a scorpion and then drags itself off the edge. Behind a monitor arm it is worse, because the lead simply will not take the bend. Everything electrical about it has been faultless. Ethernet at gigabit, 4K at 30Hz over HDMI, and Windows has never once asked for a driver.
Used for: 6–12 months
Nine months of carrying it about and the only thing wrong with it is that stiff lead

Brought a 2010 boardroom projector back to life
Runs warm enough to notice on the table
The boardroom in our other office has a ceiling projector from about 2010 with a VGA cable and nothing else, and it had effectively been abandoned. This dongle put it back in the booking system the same afternoon. Picture at 1024x768 is exactly as good as that projector ever was. It does get warm on the table, warm enough that you notice resting a hand on it during a long meeting, and warmer still with the Ethernet busy. Nothing has misbehaved because of it, but do not bury it under paperwork!
Used for: 6–12 months
Covers HDMI, VGA and wired network in one small slab
Lives in the front pocket of the laptop bag and has never once let me down

Plug is still tight after two years of hot-desking
Bulky moulding blocks the neighbouring socket
Plugged and unplugged several times a day across two years of hot-desking and the USB-C end is still as tight as it was on the first morning. The moulding does block the port next to it on a Surface, mind.
Used for: 1–3 months
Passthrough charging is slower than the Surface plug
Charging through the hub is noticeably slower than plugging the Surface charger in direct, so on a long day away I still carry both. Everything else about it has been perfect and it lives in the bag permanently.
