Two stars because for the one job I bought it for, an interview across a cafe table, it is beaten by a clip-on mic costing a fifth of the price. The XY capsule hears the room, the table, and my own fingers adjusting the body, and 32-bit float fixes none of that. Three weeks in and I have gone back to the lapel mic for anything with a voice in it. Superb machine for music, wrong tool for speech.

Recorded a choir rehearsal in a stone church, put the gain roughly where it looked right, and nothing clipped when the sopranos arrived. That alone is worth the money for anything you only get one go at. The four XLR inputs meant I could add a pair of spot mics without dragging a mixer along, and the whole lot ran off 4 AA batteries for the full 3 hours. Transfer is plain USB storage, so there is no software to install, which after my last recorder is a relief!
