Two things I want to flag for anyone considering this over a plain hub. The good: raising the screen has done more for my neck in six weeks than the ergonomic chair did in a year, and having the ports at hand height instead of behind the laptop is a small daily pleasure. The less good: the hub half runs its video through the same board that sits under a warm laptop, and after a long session the aluminium under the machine is hot. Nothing has misbehaved because of it, but I would not want it any hotter than it already gets.
Used for: 6–12 months
A stand and a hub in one, so the desk gains twice
The combination is cleverer than it sounds. The laptop sits raised at eye level, air gets underneath it so the fans stop screaming, and all the ports you would otherwise be reaching under the machine for are along the front edge of the stand where your hand already is. Eight months in and the only thing I would warn a buyer about is weight. It is designed round a slim laptop. Mine is a sixteen-inch workstation and while the stand holds it perfectly well, the whole assembly slides on a smooth desk if you type hard, because the rubber feet were sized for something lighter. A mat under it sorted that out and I have not thought about it since.
Used for: 6–12 months
The laptop runs noticeably cooler once it is lifted off the desk
The fans used to come on during video calls and now they do not, which I did not expect from a hub!
Used for: Less than a month
One object replaced a stand, a hub and two adapters
Assembly instructions are a diagram with no words
Arrived, and the first ten minutes were spent working out which way up the thing goes, because the leaflet is a wordless diagram drawn by somebody who already knew. After that it has been a delight: laptop up at eye height, one cable to the machine, screen, network, keyboard and mouse all live, and the desk clear underneath for the first time since I started working from home!
Used for: More than a year
Still rock steady with a heavy laptop on it
Cleaning under it means unplugging everything
It has held the same laptop through two house moves and a change of desk without a single loose port. The only nuisance is that dusting under it is a whole operation
Used for: 3–6 months
Two screens, network and charging without a separate dock
Four months of running two monitors, a wired connection and the laptop on charge through this, and it has behaved like kit costing twice as much. It wakes with the machine, nothing needs replugging, and the laptop sits at a height that has quietly stopped my shoulders aching by Friday.
Used for: 1–3 months
Raises the laptop and hides the cables. Two problems, one object!
Used for: 3–6 months
Screen at the right height and every port within reach
Only fits laptops up to a certain thickness
Neck pain gone, desk tidy, and one cable does the lot!
Used for: 1–3 months
The stand part is well made
The second display output stopped working within weeks
Two stars because half of it has stopped doing its job. As a stand it is fine, solid aluminium, holds the laptop steady. The HDMI output worked for the first few weeks and now gives a black screen on any cable and any monitor, while the DisplayPort next to it is fine. So I have a stand with one video output and a lot of ports I did not need.
