Getting it into a first-floor studio was the hardest part of the whole purchase, and it is not work for one person with a bad back. Since then it has been effortless. Simulation runs that used to be left going overnight now finish inside the working day, which means the results arrive while the design is still in your head rather than the morning after

Bought for a small product design consultancy where it sits under a desk in an open room, which is not what the noise figures suggest you should do. Under a sustained render there is an audible rise, but it is a smooth one, and nobody has ever asked for it to be moved. The upgrade path has already been used once. Memory went in without a fight, another drive went in without a fight, and there is room for a bigger card whenever the software finally insists. A year and a half of daily use, no faults, no surprises, no reason to think about it.

The reason for buying a proper workstation rather than assembling one is the approved hardware list our software publishes. Everything in this machine is on it, which means that when something odd happens, the conversation with the software vendor is about the software. Too early to say much else. It arrived, it took the licence and the plugins without a murmur, and the first assembly opened on it came up before I had finished sitting down!
