The thing nobody tells you about room kit is how much of it needs a reboot every Monday. This one has not needed one. Eighteen months of daily meetings, a dozen laptops through it most weeks, and the only intervention has been wiping the table cable down.

Replaced a table box that needed two leads and a prayer. Now there is one USB-C tail sitting in the middle of the table, guests plug into it, and the room does the rest: display on, camera framed, mic live, no menu diving. Setup took an afternoon because the cable run to the display had to go under the floor, but that is a room problem rather than a hub problem. A fortnight in and not one meeting has started late because of the kit, which is a first for us!

We run three rooms on these and the pattern is the same in all of them: someone walks in with a laptop, one lead goes into the table, and the display, the camera and the ceiling mic all come alive together. No adapter box, no hunting for the right input on the telly. The grumble is maintenance. Updates do not arrive quietly in the background; you need to sit down with the sync software on a Windows laptop, plug into the hub itself and babysit the progress bar, and the room is out of action while you do it. Over a year on we have done that three times and each one has meant an email to everyone with a booking. Worth it, but plan for it.

Worth saying what this is not: it is not a dock for your desk. It lives under a meeting table and its job is to hand a guest laptop the display, the camera and the room audio in one go. Judged on that it is excellent. Judged as a hub for a home office it would be an expensive way to get one HDMI port and you would hate it.

Put one of these in the small meeting room to stop people huddling round a laptop screen. Guest plugs in, the wall display picks them up, and the camera and mic in the room come with it. Eight months in and nobody has asked me how to use it, which is the entire point!
